Our Story
RojKilim began with a simple idea: to bring the warmth and character of handwoven rugs from Eastern Türkiye into everyday living spaces.
Founded by Azad Arslan, RojKilim is rooted in a personal connection to Van and Hakkari and a lasting appreciation for the region’s textile traditions. What began by sharing rugs at local markets and festivals grew into an Ann Arbor–based collection connecting handmade textiles with people who value craft, history, and thoughtful design.
How We Source
Every rug in the RojKilim collection is personally selected through trusted sources in Van, Hakkari, and neighboring weaving regions. We look carefully at the information available for each piece and avoid assigning a specific origin, age, or weaving tradition when it cannot be supported.
What We Look For
We consider each textile individually, paying close attention to:
- Materials: wool, cotton, silk, and other natural fibers
- Technique: kilim, sumak, pile weaving, and related handmade traditions
- Design: color balance, geometry, texture, and composition
- Condition: signs of age, use, repair, and preservation
- Documented context: origin and tradition when reliable information is available
The exact rug shown in each product listing is the rug the buyer receives.
Our Mission
RojKilim celebrates handmade textiles from Türkiye and neighboring weaving regions. These rugs carry the decisions, skill, and individual character of their makers. By presenting them with care and honest product information, we hope to connect enduring craft with homes that will value it for years to come.
